Teacher Bios
Shannan McLaughlin- Owner
Shannan is a busy mom of five kids with a love of dance, watching her kids grow, and creating a loving environment where others feel safe to learn and grow is her goal. Shannan is a registered nurse but has loved to dance throughout her life. She thought her dance dreams were over and strives to help her daughters achieve theirs. She found Jive dance studio and found she could dance right along with her daughters.
She has been dancing for over 8 years now and loves being able to help create a loving and safe environment for her dancers and all other dancers.
Family Rhythm is for all ages and skill levels. We have spots for everyone! Our goal is to create an environment where our dancers grow in their skills and love of dance as we grow as a dance family.
Aubrey Ruiz - Teacher
Aubrey Ruiz is a 26 year old young professional. Aubrey has loved dance since she was a little girl. Born in SLC, Utah, Aubrey danced starting at 5 years old. She started tumbling and dancing competitively at 12-years old. Continuing to dance after moving to Michigan, she was recruited by Aquinas College where she danced, choreographed, and competed. Dance is part of her life and she wants to continue to help other girls follow their hearts.
Dana Hussey - Teacher
Dana has been dancing her whole life. She was a cheerleader in high school and attended college on a theatre scholarship. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Dance Education. While attending BYU she was a member of the Cougarette precision dance team. She also taught USA cheer and dance camps under Paula Abdul. She has studied with William Christiensen, Alwin Nickoli, Donna White, Paula Abdul, and many more. She danced professionally with Osmond Studio when it was in Orem. She was a back up dancer for many of the guest stars on the Donny and Marie Show. She also danced in the first Stadium of Fire. She has also danced with Disney characters at Disneyland. She taught dance at West Jordan High, where she was also the Drill Team Advisor. She has owned her own studio as well. She has been a professional adjudicator for over 25 years and is a member of the Utah Dance Judges Association. She judges Drill as well as studio dance all over the Western United States. Dance is her passion, and teaching proper technique is very important to her. She has been married to her husband Doug for 39 years. They have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. She loves to travel. She is an animal lover, and has 4 dogs.

Lauren (Lo) Hedrick - Teacher
Lo is stoked to be teaching! She is 21 years old and has been in the dance world since she was 6. She has danced on the Drill Team, as well as at competitive and non competitive studios. Lo loves connecting with her dancers! She is also studying psychology at UVU, plays electric bass, and is getting married next summer! Lo's ready to dance!
Melanie (Mel) McQuinn - Teacher
Miss Mel has been dancing for 18 years and has been teaching dance for a year and a half. She grew up doing jazz and ballet, then the Drill team in high school. In her free time you'll find her doing yoga, aerial silks, and pilates! She is currently a student at UVU studying exercise science and just finished her mat pilates certification!
Lexi Barnes - Teacher
Lexi Barnes is 18 years old and a Senior in high school. She has danced since she was three years old. She has danced at Rocky Mountain Dance her whole life and has learned so much from them. They have helped her to get to where she is today. Now Lexi is a part of the Bingham Minerettes and is going into her third year with them. The Minerettes are her family and have been a dream come true. They have taught her hard work, discipline, and perseverance. Some things Lexi loves to do are hanging with her friends and family, dancing, going outdoors, and boating. She has a twin brother, an older sister and a mom and dad. She is excited to be a part of Family Rhythms dance program and to help kids improve and find a love for dance.
